Super Talent releases SSDs for EEE PC

Mini_pcie1We just received a press release from those SSD makers at Super Talent.  They recognize the size of the EEE PC market is growing at a fast pace and that one of the upgrades that owners are hot to get are SSDs of increased size.  They are announcing the introduction of three SSDs made expressly for the EEE PC that are available now in various capacities.  The new EEE PC SSDs are mini-PCI and come in 16, 32 and 64 GB capacities ranging in price from a quite reasonable $53 to $149.  The new SSDs offer reasonable read/write rates:

FPM16GHAE

16GB mini PCIe SSD

40/15 MB/sec

$53

FPM32GHAE

32GB mini PCIe SSD

40/15 MB/sec

$79

FPM64GHAE

64GB mini PCIe SSD

40/15 MB/sec

$149

Let’s hope this is the beginning of a big third party expansion market that will soon see high capacity batteries for various netbooks.

Can you tell whether one of these will replace the 4GB SSD on my EEE PC 901 or just the 8GB one?

@taxman I was going to ask the same. I’d love more space on the primary drive.

Looking at the specs I assume the SLC would be better as it is faster but I’m not clear if it is the right form factor.

Looking at this image on JKK Mobile http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ZKlSQm2j7TI/SKNm25Uqt5I/AAAAAAAADMQ/BZ-kr-4daKg/s1600-h/asusssds.jpg it looks like these are a replacement for the secondary SSD - bottom card in image.

Shame.

Curious, can this work with an Eee 701? It’s got a slot underneath, is it for one of these cards?

I wish that they also had more Graphics Memory so they can drive bigger external LCD’s. To be honest, a Eee PC has enough power for 99 percent of what I do. I would never imagine it being my ONLY PC, but it very well could if they had more storage (Thanks SuperTalent!) and more graphics memory. This could even help in it’s normal mode to. More graphics memory is always good even if you don’t need all of to drive the LCD that’s built in.

the MyDigitalSSD and Buffalo brand SSD are a bit faster than these Super Talent, but it’s good to see more players, make the price go down :)
