Back to school: buy an iPod, discounted Mac and get up to $299 back

One of the advantages to selling both the hardware and software like Apple does is that you can give freebies at your leisure. Apple traditionally does just that with their Back to School promos and this year is no exception. The deal is, if you buy a qualifying Mac computer with an education discount before September 15th, you can get a free iPod or Touch after rebate. You end up scoring on both accounts because the education discount for students, teachers and educators starts at $100 for a MacBook, while the discount doubles for a MacBook Pro. MacBook Air student purchases qualify for up to $230, while an iMac will cost you up to $140 less.

Adding an 8GB iPod to your cart will yield you a $199 mail-in rebate, while dropping an iPod Touch in any capacity will net you a $299 rebate. All the terms and conditions are available in this PDF from Apple; probably worth the review as it has the specific product numbers eligible for the rebates. I won't be rushing into this one... our kids are still IN school for a few weeks yet. In fact, I may need to block this post from their computers somehow... otherwise they'll be harassing me for a Mac and iPod combo. Each!
