Asus Eee PC 1000 specs eye-spied

Asus_eee_pc_1000series_1SlashGear has a sneak-peek look at the upoming Asus Eee PC 1000 that's expected to be announced tomorrow at Computex. Based on the picture snap, presumably of an Eee PC display, the device further blends the lines between low-costing laptops and full-featured notebooks that cost more:

  • 10-inch display
  • Intel Atom powered
  • Linux or Windows XP Home
  • Up to 2 GB of RAM
  • 80 GB of storage in the XP model
  • 802.11 b/g and n (woot!)
  • integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam
  • 1.45 kilograms of weight and a battery life of 3.2 to 5 hours

We'll see more details tomorrow for sure, but this should whet your whistle for a day.

that bezel is freakin huge, Sony & Fujitsu use the space much more efficiently. this is going to be 1 big laptop.

how much is this going to cost? Enough, the 1000 Eee PC makes no sense. the 900 made no sense either. Who would pay $550+ for a budget-spec laptop.

That's the million dollar question, figuratively speaking. ;) At some point, it won't make sense for consumers to buy a "slightly smaller, but noticeably lower performing" machine. We should find out price and availability tomorrow.

I,ll take a little bit of laptop with my bezel?

10" screen in a 12" body seens to be the rage...

Thanks for the link, Kevin. The picture was actually one of multiple Eee units and is courtesy of Akihabara some time back (credit where it's due, and all that).
ASUS have finally got around to officially announcing the 901/1000/1000H models, but have frustratingly omitted any pricing details. I'm leaning toward agreeing with brutalturtle; at the cost ASUS are going to have to charge for these things, I'd rather pick up a "proper" laptop.

3.2 lbs?!? WTH? How can you be called a SUBnote when you weigh more than three freaking pounds??
