OtterBox intros protective cases for Samsung Q1U UMPCs

1990051OtterBox has long been a name synonymous with outstanding device protection and today they're bringing that protection to the latest UMPCs from Samsung. The new case fits either a Samsung Q1 Ultra or Ultra Premium model and offers access to practically every port and interface while offering protection from the elements.

For $79.95, you'll get your choice of yellow or black. Regardless of color, each case offers three layers of protection: a clear membrane, a Polycarbonate shell, and a thin silicone skin. I wouldn't drop my UMPC underwater in this (although have I done that with a PDA in an OtterBox), but short of that, this case looks to offer outstanding protection while adding 11.5 ounces of weight.

Checking-out the Otterbox website, I noticed there is no option to distinguish between the Q1 Ultra and the Ultra Premium when ordering. I have the premium, and I am concerned that the holes for the split keyboard in the clear protective plastic would not match up on one or the other of the two models since the keys are different. Any one have an idea? Is there a port to access the biometric sensor?

It looks to me like the keys are all covered by the clear membrane; if I'm right, there are no cut-outs for the keys in that case. The fingerprint sensor also appears to be covered by a removable flap for access. I'll drop a note to our contacts at OtterBox; if I find out any more I'll leave a comment.

Whitt, I posed your questions to Kristen at OtterBox and here's what she said:

"Yes, it will fit both the Q1U and Q1UP. There are two layer ones
included with the case one fits the Q1 and one fits the Q1UP. This is
being added to our website too under the product page technical
specifications. It also provides access to the (fingerprint reader) or
biometric sensor. "

Hope that helps!

Thanks!! Great info...keep up the good work!
