Devices are moving around in Mobile Tech Manor

Lenovo_thinkpad_x61_with_mike_whale One thing not in question is how many devices come in and out of Mobile Tech Manor.  It's like there's a revolving door and gadgets come in and go out in a continual stream.  One of the side effects of this endless parade of technology is how my family members often get to play with stuff they normally would never get to play with.  Such is the case with the Lenovo ThinkPad x61 Tablet PC.  You've noticed I haven't mentioned it in a while even though it's a sweet convertible Tablet PC.  That's because a while back my bride wanted to try it out and you guessed it, liked it so much she wouldn't give it back.  She's been using it and loving it for a good while and it's served her needs very well.

Recently I've mentioned that she's been eying my HP 2710p Tablet and making noises to indicate she wanted to try it.  Every time she's used it temporarily she has really been impressed with its thin and lightness and I kept hearing that she'd love to "try" it.  I made the ultimate mistake at some point by saying she could indeed use if for a while.  Oops.  So every few days she's been asking me when she gets to "have" it.  Now this created a problem for me because I still use it in my work a lot.  That means I make money with it so giving it up was going to be painful indeed.  In the back of my mind I've been scheming thinking to find a way out of this dilemma and last night I had a brilliant idea.

Hp_tx2051 I thought about how my wife uses a computer and realized that she rarely, if ever, uses it as a Tablet PC.  Sure she likes that she can swivel the screen around and use the pen but she has always expressed disappointment that she can't manipulate the interface with her fingertips instead of the pen.  Enter the HP tx2051 Entertainment Notebook.  I've stated that I believe the tx2051 is for the consumer who is looking for a really good multimedia notebook yet wants occasional Tablet usage.  This fits her working style to a T so last night I built it up to let her use it for a while.  The Belkin Easy Transfer cable made that a simple process and this morning she is happily computing away on the tx2051.  "It's so fast!" is something I've been hearing a lot and I think she will enjoy using such a kick-a$$ notebook.  I'll report back in a while how well this experiment goes.

Of course this means that this morning the Lenovo x61 is back in Mobile Tech Manor and I am playing with it for the first time in a while.  It's really a nice Tablet PC as you know and the 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo processor makes it a very snappy performer for a tablet.  This is getting fun.  :)

I noticed that you have some very long term evaluation units. Lenovo has also partnered with the Gottabe mobile. Is the evaluation units from Lenovo a permate evaluation or did they do somthing like a business lease?

So James I you have me sold on the 2710p but my mind says I'm too cheap so could you spell out the divide between the tx2000 for us who are too cheap to shell out for the 2710 ? Also would the either of these benefit from 4 gigs ram.

Still sitting on the fence.

My other reason for waiting is the perennial churn of new products coming down the pike so it makes me antsie to buck up for the 2710p.

Sigh.

You know that your wife reads this blog, don't you?

I don't understand that first picture. Your wife has a beard?!!?

hey there. i finally took the plunge and purchased my first real tablet pc. i got the hp tx2000 and this thing is incredible. inking on this is great. i dont know what i was thinking in using a umpc for inking. $836 with my discount from my employer. great bang for my buck. i don't know why anyone would want the 2710p if they are on a budget. the tx2000 has a real 2.5" notebook hard drive @5400 rpm with capacities up to 320GB. the tx2000 also has a dvd drive.

Ummmm, USE? the tablet? No, try IT'S MINE!!! bwahahahahahaha!!!! I love it. The keyboard is much easier to use than the Lenovo. I like the fact that the CD/DVD burner is part of the computer. Now I don't have to lug the computer AND docking station around. I like the screen resolution. It's much brighter and clearer. And, well, the speed.......what can I say? You are SO not getting this back!

jk, other then weight, size, and battery life, how is the 2710p and p1620 better?

You're doomed, James. :p

I thought that's what the moderator was for was to keep wife comments from making it to the blog. :)

solomon, I like the weight, size and battery life better on the 2710p and P1620.
