Seagate sues STEC, SSD maker, for patent infringement
We told you it was only a matter of time before Seagate made good on its threat to take SSD makers to court over alleged patent infringements. The hard drive maker sued SSD maker STEC on Monday claiming STEC was violating four patents that Seagate holds pertaining to storage technology. STEC has claimed they will defend themselves vigorously of course. This it very bad news as Seagate will cast a pall over the rise of SSDs which we feel are the next wave in storage technology. Consumers lose big time if companies like Seagate are successful in shutting down, or driving up the cost of SSDs that are beginning to ramp up for mobile devices. Somebody slap Seagate please.

this news needs to be spread EVERYWHERE of what Seagate is doing ... and people need to stop buying their products supporting them.

Intersting to note that Seagate have taken on the small guy and left the asian giants alone. From what I have read they want STEC to give in to their demands which will in turn give their patent claims more credibilty when facing up to Samsung et al. I hope that the big guys are giving STEC a helping hand here.
In the meantime the SSD technology will continue to develop and deployed in areas beyond Seagates reach like here in Korea.

Maybe they can slow down SSD makers of SATA/IDE devices but not PCIe memory modules. Their main problems are the fast drops in price NAND flash manufacturers are living now.

I am surprised that there is not more of a backlash at Seagate in the blogosphere about this.
I want my affordable 100GB SSD in my tablet. Sweeet.
