Verizon holding up MSFP for the XV6700

If true, and I have no reason to believe it's not, this is a disgrace. The MSFP, or Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5 phones has been around for at least six months, if not more. Other carriers have already integrated it for their devices, tested it and distributed it. All the while, there's not a peep from Verizon Wireless on when they'll have the MSFP for the XV6700 and now Pocket PC Thoughts asks why.

According to Raphael Salgado  "But, in my latest conversation with UTStarcom, I have been basically told that the engineers have been sitting on a completed Verizon-branded firmware update for some time now, and simply been waiting for Verizon Wireless to "bless" the image in order to release it publicly. To add further insult to injury, according to the engineers, the most recent timeframe for a response is 3rd quarter 2006"

Considering that the exact same UTStarcom phone is available on the Sprint network as the PPC-6700, which has had the MSFP, this is simply sad that Verizon isn't taking the time to keep their customers current. What's worse is that I suspect these are the same customers that have the highest monthly bill on average; the main driver for these types of devices is not just the monthly voice plan, but the additional data plans that are already priced higher than the relative competition. Pitiful. It's the only word I can use to describe it.

I'm starting to think I should have just waited a few more months for my family's Verizon plan to expire so that I could jump to sprint. This crap is getting old, along with paying $50/mo for data...
